Sumario:In his work The concept of technology , Álvaro Vieira Pinto elaborates a philosophy of the technology from the peripheral perspective. The philosopher from Rio de Janeiro, de fines the technique in an Aristotelian, anthropological and evolutionary form, as the essential mediation in the dialectic between man and nature, through the intentional process of the self existence. Influenced by Hegel and Marx, Pinto conceives a dialectical typology to situate technology in relation to underdevelopment. Reflecting his participation in the High Institute of Brazilian Studies (ISEB), he points out the is sue of the ideologization of technology, as essential in the domination process of the center over the periphral countries. The domination circle would be broken by a historical necessity, simultaneously subjective and objective, demanding the constitution of a national development project. This approach's problems are pointed out: an optimistic eschatology, the technique in it self as neutral, and the naturalization of history. Separately, his original contributions by means of his concept of conscience for the other, his dialectical concept of technological change, as well as his radical criticism to what he calls technological theology are emphasized.
