Heat transfer in a bar: Numerical method and group dynamics
We present the solution of the classical problem of propagation of heat in a bar. Using ordinary analytical methods, it would require manipulation of partial differential equations and some algebra, but in the method we propose it is just necessary to add and divide by three. Sumario: | We present the solution of the classical problem of propagation of heat in a bar. Using ordinary analytical methods, it would require manipulation of partial differential equations and some algebra, but in the method we propose it is just necessary to add and divide by three. We point out that all operations are performed by the students themselves, who act as mass elements and memory modules. The whole class works therefore as a computer. © 1991 Taylor & Francis Ltd. |
