Sumario: | Sulfation of commercial kappa-carrageenan was carried out with sulfuric acid mediated by dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, using two different reagent amounts. The sulfated products were characterized and their structure was investigated by methylation analysis and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The antiviral activity of both sulfated products against herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 is reported. |
