Sumario: | A numerical simulation of the growth of a multicellular spheroid was made. First, we took into account the model of Sherratt & Chaplain formulated in terms of cellular densities. Afterwards, we incorporated to the model the contributions of Tan & Ang, who added a random term to the nutrient concentration and a delay factor to the main equations of the model due to the release of cytostatic and cytotoxic factors from the necrotic core of the tumor. Lastly, we proposed a new delay model that led to a more suitable representation of the physiopathological phenomena in so far as the simulation shows the deceleration in the tumor growth and the decrease of proliferative cell density over time, as a consequence of the presence of the aforementioned cytostatic and cytotoxic factors. © 2016 IEEE.
