Alternative methods for diagnosing the flow regime in a bubble column

An alternative method that can help identification of the flow regime in a bubble column using a non-invasive methodology is proposed. It is based on the analysis of the time series of the number of photon counts emitted by a radioactive source that are able to cross part of the gas-liquid emulsion...

520 3 |a An alternative method that can help identification of the flow regime in a bubble column using a non-invasive methodology is proposed. It is based on the analysis of the time series of the number of photon counts emitted by a radioactive source that are able to cross part of the gas-liquid emulsion and impinge on a conveniently located scintillation detector. Statistic numbers estimated from the response of the scintillation detector to the presence of an external radioactive source located close to the reactor can provide an indication of the underlying flow regime. The procedure is simple, not expensive and can be easily implemented on an existing installation.  |l eng
