Sumario:This essay offers an ethnographer’s perspective on Andean understandings of materiality in the context of archaeological interpretation. I confine myself to a few of the ways in which ethnography can inform archaeological thinking. Currently, the so-called “ontological turn” in anthropology challenges archaeologists to engage seriously with alternate realities that defy the analytical terms of “Western” intellectual tradition.
