Sumario:Quartz is one of the raw materials most used for the manufacture of lithic instruments through time and space. However, its great hardness, the presence of fracture planes and other inclusions caused that it was not selected when better quality raw material could be accessed. However, in many places it was used almost exclusively. This general characteristic of the record implies the need to develop methodological strategies for the identification of particular diagnostic features of percussion in this mineral, which are not always developed or are not perceived as clearly as in rocks of better quality. That is why this work aims to be a contribution of experiences of analysis of lithic assemblages knapped in quartz in the Pampean Sierras of Argentina. Our intention is to generate analytical categories that allow us to understand what were ancient knappers choices in the case of quartz and promote comparisons between specialists dedicated to this subject.
