Sumario:Introduction: Historically, the pre-professional practice of Mental Health Nursing was located in Psychiatric Hospitals, focused on the care process of a person with mental suffering, applying the Tidal Model. Due to the context of the pandemic, and the health measures of social distancing, it was impossible to enter the monovalent hospitals. This situation accelerated the transformation of pre-professional practices towards interventions from the community paradigm in mental health. The application of the Tidal Model was moved from the hospital to the community. Development of the experience: synchronous and asynchronous theoretical practical activities were included that culminated in the realization of a Holistic Assessment according to the proposed theoretical model. Conclusion: The experience was positively valued. The students appropriated the contents, which allowed to consolidate the mental health paradigm shift, focusing it on the community, where nursing must intervene to reduce the gaps in Mental Health care.
