| Sumario: | In the Córdoba´s Urban Observatory of the UNC we have been building information about the territory of the city of Córdoba since 2006. Mobility is one of the main research dimension, from public transportation to alternative forms that contribute to urban sustainability such as cycling.
Since 2021 we have been working on pedestrian mobility. For that we have built a Walkability Index (WI) that synthesizes the state (global and by block) of walkability in the Central Area of the Córdoba city.
Based on previous experiences, four dimensions were defined (environmental quality, road and pedestrian safety, connectivity and commercial activities, and urban equipment and infrastructure), which contain 40 indicators. Through the field survey, the value that represents the local state of the indicator was determined using the QField software. Then, these data were transcribed into an Excel spreadsheet for calculating the index and georeferenced through the QGis software.
This year we replicated the methodology in a pericentral neighborhood with a strong process of densification: B° General Paz. Although it is considered that the constructed index reflects the conditions that affect walking movements, generating information for the formulation of strategies to improve central areas, it is necessary to complement it with a qualitative index that reflects pedestrians' perception of walkability. The aim is to relate the quantitative methodology of the WI with evaluations of the space from the pedestrian point of view, both from a technical perspective and from the experience of the pedestrians themselves. The main goal tried to oriented policies for public space, as well as concrete action plans in the short and medium term for the qualification of sidewalks. |
