Sumario:The Historic Center of Mexico City has been the place of important events throughout different historical stages of Mexican society: the pre-Hispanic, the colony, independence and the contemporary stage, hence the conformation of the city has been subjected to multiple urban transformations, which are that reflection of the religious, economic, political and cultural symbols, and that have an impact on social dynamics. In this paper, a brief description of such transformations it is made, focusing on those that occurred in the last two centuries, in addition, it addresses how the promotion of culture has left its mark on the urban landscape through gentrification and the replacement of urbanism planned by the State by the business urbanism of an emblematic space, not only from the Mexican capital, but to nationally and internationally level, as well as the challenges that this has implied, particularly in achieving equity in the use of public space.
