Sumario:In this article we analyze the school reading scenes present in the memory of the rural teacher Julián Isidoro Ripa, who worked between 1936 and 1943 in the National School No. 15 of Colonia Cushamen, Chubut, Argentina. From an approach with theoretical and methodological tools from the History of Reading and the Didactics of the teaching of reading and writing, we seek to highlight the problems faced by this teacher to teach reading and the appropriation operations of written culture deployed by his students. In doing so, we propose to think about books and readers in a peripheral space of the educational and literate field of Argentina in the mid-twentieth century. In order to explore these issues, we have divided the paper into three sections. First, we describe the history of the village and its school. Then we introduce Ripa and his chronicle. Finally, we analyze the reading scenes that took place in the school.
