Said program was developed in order to support a municipal project for the separation of household waste at origin that had been conducted in Freyre. The program was carried out in two stages: a diagnostic stage and a stage in which the intervention is elaborated and executed. During the initial stage, the previous knowledge of the involved people as well as their habitual behaviour as regards waste were studied. How these topics are treated at school was also investigated. The obtained results allowed the design of an educational intervention, which considered the development of different strategies and activities oriented to students and teachers of the schools and to families of Freyre. Se presenta un programa de educación ambiental dirigido a la población de Freyre (Córdoba, Argentina) y a la comunidad educativa de sus escuelas de nivel primario y especial. El mismo fue desarrollado en apoyo a un proyecto municipal para la separación de basura domiciliaria en origen, que estaba siendo realizado en dicha localidad. El programa fue llevado a cabo en dos etapas: la primera, diagnóstica, y la segunda, de elaboración y ejecución de la intervención. Durante el paso inicial se estudiaron los saberes previos de los públicos involucrados y sus conductas habituales con respecto a la basura, y se investigó sobre el tratamiento que reciben estos temas en la escuela. Los resultados obtenidos permitieron el diseño de una intervención educativa, la cual contempló el desarrollo de diversas estrategias y actividades orientadas a los alumnos y docentes de las escuelas de la localidad, y a las familias de Freyre.
