Sumario:The objective of this article is to reflect on the problems involved in distance learning of the subject of Paleontology, from the theoretical understandings and formative experiences of the author himself. Thus, it was problematized: would it be possible that the distance learning of the curricular unit of Paleontology, of undergraduate courses, in the way that this subject  is currently being organized and offered by private educational institutions, could negatively influence the learning of the discipline and the training of future teachers and researchers in the area? The author considers that greater attention by educators and researchers in the field of Geosciences and Biology teaching is urgent and necessary in the face of the "epidemic" of expansion of the offer of the subject of Paleontology, through distance education, in the way that this has occurred in private HEIs in Brazil, and proposes solutions to mitigate the problems presented.
