Thus, it was problematized: would it be possible that the distance learning of the curricular unit of Paleontology, of undergraduate courses, in the way that this subject  is currently being organized and offered by private educational institutions, could negatively influence the learning of the discipline and the training of future teachers and researchers in the area? The author considers that greater attention by educators and researchers in the field of Geosciences and Biology teaching is urgent and necessary in the face of the "epidemic" of expansion of the offer of the subject of Paleontology, through distance education, in the way that this has occurred in private HEIs in Brazil, and proposes solutions to mitigate the problems presented. Objetiva-se refletir sobre as problemáticas envolvidas no ensino à distância da disciplina de Paleontologia, a partir das compreensões teóricas e experiências formativas do próprio autor. Assim, problematizou-se: seria possível o ensino à distância da unidade curricular de Paleontologia, de cursos de graduação, na forma como atualmente esta disciplina está sendo organizada e ofertada por instituições de ensino privadas, influenciar negativamente o aprendizado da disciplina e a formação de futuros professores e pesquisadores da área? O autor considera ser urgente e necessária mais atenção de educadores e pesquisadores do campo de ensino das Geociências e da Biologia para a “epidemia” de expansão da oferta da disciplina de Paleontologia via EaD, sob a forma com que isso vem ocorrendo em IES privadas no Brasil, e propõe soluções para mitigar as problemáticas apresentadas.
