First, the notion of work and its scope and place in society are developed, to understand what its need is. Next, the relationship between subsistence and social needs is reviewed, to return to the work necessary to sustain social life. Finally, it reflects on the relationship of these fundamental categories —needs and work— in the foundations of social policy and its dilemmas.
