It starts from put into question the notion of economy by establishing a critique perspective over the social sciences disciplines, and their present difficulties to understand the popular economy experiences as an expression of a particular historical moment. Contributions from a group of Latin-Americans authors are considered, emphasizing the Argentinian context, and accounting the richness of the recent debates, and the place it has gained both in the public agenda and in the social organizations. En este artículo proponemos una genealogía por los estudios sobre economía popular, describiendo los solapamientos y desplazamientos que llevan a las perspectivas de Economía Social y Solidaria. Partimos de problematizar la noción de economía a través de una mirada crítica sobre las disciplinas de las ciencias sociales y sus dificultades actuales para comprender las experiencias de la economía popular como expresión de un momento histórico particular. Consideramos en esta reflexión los aportes de un conjunto de autores latinoamericanos, con énfasis en el contexto argentino, y dando cuenta de la riqueza en los debates generados recientemente y el lugar que han ganado tanto en la agenda pública como en las organizaciones sociales.
