| Sumario: | This paper explores the possibility of a pre-hispanic region surrounding the Bañados de Añatuya (Middle Salado river, Santiago del Estero, Argentina) and the importance that the site of Sequía Vieja might have had as a node of relationships, aliances and communication with Andean and Chaco-littoral populations. Moreover, it is proposed that this node not only endures over Colonial times, but also remains very important during this period. For that reason, we describe and analyze the archaeological collections recovered in the site, emphasizing the study of indicators of Andeanand Chaco-littoral origins (metal objects, beads made of copper mineral and Spondylus, pichcas, pipes, pottery, among others). This study is combined with the results of the fieldwork carried out by our team in the site and the area (characterization, first datings, structure). |
