Este artículo se centra en los alcances de la novela Ulises de James Joyce, especialmente en relación con la literatura anterior. Para eso, se tomará como punto de partida la premisa que se desprende del texto “Kafka y sus precursores” de Jorge Luis Borges. De este modo, se indagará en cómo la influencia de la escritura de Joyce ha permitido que se reconocieran antecedentes del monólogo interior en novelas de la literatura del siglo XIX como Madame Bovary, Ana Karenina y Effi Briest.
