To ensure good fruit production both in quality and quantity, as well as to ensure that the useful life span of the fruit trees is the maximum possible, it is essential that the actual cold period of a given region coincides, to a great extent, with the cold requirements of the plants under consideration. This paper reviews and compares different methods and formulae to estimate the number of cold hours with the real number of cold hours (< 7°C) registered during the 1937/75 period at the Observatory of the Córdoba Meteorological Service (Latitude 31° 24' S - Longitude: 64° 11' W of G.; Height above sea level: 425 m). The basis of each method or formula is briefly explained and reference is made to its performance throughout the period analyzed. Furthermore, taking one of the methods studied (Dr. Sharpe's) as a basis, a formula for the estimation of cold hours in Córdoba has been proposed, which has proved to be the most adequate method of estimation. Para que haya una buena producción de frutas en cantidad y calidad y asimismo para que la "vida útil" de los árboles frutales sea la máxima posible, es fundamental que las disponibilidades de frío de una región coincidan en gran medida con los requerimientos de frío por parte de las plantas. En este trabajo se estudian y comparan distintos métodos y fórmulas de estimación de horas de frío con el número real de horas de frío (i < 7°C) registradas durante el período 1937/75 en el observatorio del Servicio Meteorológico Nacional en Córdoba (Latitud: 31° 24' S; longitud: 64° 11' W de G.; Elevación: 425 m s.n.m.). Se explican brevemente los fundamentos de cada método o fórmula y se hace referencia a su comportamiento a través de la serie de años analizada. Además, tomando como base uno de los métodos analizados (Dr. Sharpe), se propone una fórmula para la estimación de las horas de frío en Córdoba, que resulta ser el método más adecuado de estimación.
