Despite the relevance that “youth” has acquired as a main issue in Argentina's public agenda during 21st century first decade, the discussion on youth quotas is still marginal. Particularly, regarding broader debates on the right to be elected as a key element of representative democracies for the effective realization of formal political participation. An analysis of the current age composition of the Argentinean Congress was carried out. In addition, a survey of bills on youth quotas in National Congress was realized. The potential of this mechanism on promoting and increasing youth political representation is discussed here, in the light of feminist political mobilization achievements during the recent years, particularly regarding women's political representation, through quotas and parity. El artículo aborda uno de los elementos centrales de las democracias representativas para la realización efectiva de la participación política formal: el derecho a ser electo. Para ello se enfoca en un mecanismo específico, los cupos juveniles en el poder legislativo. A tales fines se realizó un análisis de la composición etaria actual del Congreso argentino mediante el cálculo de las edades promedio actuales de las y los diputados y senadores, las edades promedio de las renovaciones parciales y cantidad de congresales menores de 40 años. Además, se realiza un relevamiento de proyectos legislativos sobre cupo juvenil y un análisis de las propuestas que allí se contemplan para su implementación. A pesar de la relevancia que la cuestión juvenil ha adquirido en el país y en la agenda estatal en la primera década del siglo XXI, la discusión en torno a los cupos juveniles es aún marginal. Se discute aquí la importancia de este mecanismo en pos de promover y aumentar la representación política juvenil en el sistema político, a la luz de los logros obtenidos por la lucha feminista, en particular sobre la representación política de las mujeres, mediante este instrumento.
