description This article synthetically explores the process of institutionalization of distance education in Argentine national universities. It is sociologically analyzed through the practices of agents/agencies and the construction of its own field with internal struggles and connections with other fields, while defining the contested good, its legal identity, and thereby its place in the Argentine university system. The theoretical-methodological perspectives of Pierre Bourdieu's reflexive sociology and Basil Bernstein's sociological theory of education are used as conceptual references for the study. Based on these perspectives, the social space to be studied is constructed, defined as the object of research: aspects related to the formation of the university distance education field – leading to its institutionalization – in direct connection with the university educational political field. This is achieved through the analysis of the practices of agents – and their academic habitus – agencies' practices, and the trajectory of policies and regulations that impact them. On the other hand, through relationships with other fields such as the university educational political and the influence of the intellectual and pedagogical education fields, Argentine university distance education defines the contested good – the meaning of university education: the understanding of the right to education – while simultaneously undergoing the process of redefining its legal identity and consolidating its institutionalization in Argentine universities.

Este artículo recorre sintéticamente el proceso de institucionalización de la educación a distancia (EaD) en las universidades nacionales argentinas. Se analiza sociológicamente a través de prácticas de agentes/agencias y la construcción del campo propio con sus luchas internas y en vinculación con otros campos, mientras define el bien en disputa, su identidad legal y con ello su lugar en el sistema universitario argentino. Como referencias conceptuales para el estudio se toman las perspectivas teórico-metodológicas de la sociología reflexiva de Pierre Bourdieu y de la teoría sociológica de la educación de Basil Bernstein. A partir de ellas se construye el espacio social a estudiar que se define como objeto de investigación: aspectos propios de la conformación del campo de la EaD universitaria –que lleva a su institucionalización-, en directa vinculación con el campo político educativo universitario, a través del análisis de las prácticas de los agentes –y sus habitus académicos-, de las prácticas de agencias y de la trayectoria de las políticas y normativas que inciden al interior de los mismos. Por otro lado, a partir de relaciones con otros campos como el político educativo universitario, y la incidencia de los campos intelectual de la educación y el pedagógico, la EaD universitaria argentina define el bien en disputa –sentido de la educación universitaria: forma de entender el derecho a la educación- mientras recorre paralelamente el proceso de redefinición de su identidad legal y de consolidación de su institucionalización en las universidades argentinas. Este artigo realiza uma breve revisão do processo de institucionalização da educação a distância (doravante EaD) nas universidades nacionais argentinas. Analisa-se sociologicamente através das práticas dos agentes/agências e da construção de um campo próprio com suas lutas internas e em vínculo com outros campos, ao mesmo tempo que define o bem em disputa, sua identidade jurídica e com ele seu lugar no sistema universitário argentino. Como referências conceituais para o estudo, foca-se nas perspectivas teórico-metodológicas da sociologia reflexiva de Pierre Bourdieu e da teoria sociológica da educação do Brasil de Bernstein. A partir deles, constrói-se o espaço social a ser estudado, que se define como objeto de pesquisa: aspectos inerentes à formação do campo da EaD universitária - o que leva à sua institucionalização -, em conexão direta com o campo político educacional universitário, através da análise das práticas dos agentes -e seu habitus acadêmico-, das práticas das agências e da trajetória das políticas e regulações que afetam seu interior. Por outro lado, a partir das relações com outros campos, como a política educacional universitária, e a incidência dos campos intelectuais da educação e da pedagogia, a EaD universitária argentina define o bem em disputa – sentido da educação universitária: forma de compreender o direito à educação - ao mesmo tempo em que passa pelo processo de redefinição de sua identidade jurídica e de consolidação de sua institucionalização nas universidades argentinas.
