Sumario:This article refers to a study about the characteristics of distance postgraduate education, in which aspects of self-management for learning and the value of independent work are retaken. All this, from the integrating perspective among the psychological, didactic and sociological dimensions that are outlined in an approach to the formation in this modality in the context of Ecuadorian universities. Criteria are provided for each of these dimensions and how they impact and are present in the distance postgraduate process. Correspondingly, limitations of professionals for access, permanence and completion of their postgraduate training are outlined. Such limitations show the inadequacies in the process of social relevance by not offering answers to massive and heterogeneous demands of professional improvement.
