description Taking as prerogative the relation between cognitive processes, the ways of representation and, consequently, the practices linked to them, this work aims to observe, in the context of studies of gender relations, how literature has built the image of women in border region that corresponds to the zone of contact between Brazil and Paraguay, more specifically in the region in which it currently borders with the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. This work will take as main sources for this analysis the complete work of Rafael Barrett, written, principally, in Paraguay, whose texts were published between 1905 and 1910 and the novel called Selva trágica: a gesta ervateira no sulestematogrossense Hernâni Donato, whose first edition was published in Brazil in 1959. The comparative method was the basis on which the analyze was done.
