| Sumario: | The present paper analyzes the theoretical formulations regarding ethnogenesis. The discussion is connected with the review of case studies on afro-descendents in Latin America. We start recovering historical characteristics of the slave-trade and its influence in shaping racial hierarchies in colonized countries. We discuss theoretical categories such as African Diaspora, ethnicity and ethnogenesis understanding them in the context of the Nation-State formation. Finally, we will review cases studies of afro-descendent communities in four Latin-American countries. |
