The aim of this work was to investigate sociocultural competencies in the adaptation of Portuguese emigrants living in Mexico. This research was cross-sectional exploratory, with a quantitative approach; 81 participants selected by convenience; evaluated using the Sociocultural Adaptation Scale (SCAS), a questionnaire with sociodemographic and migratory situational factors, and the language proficiency scale. The migratory situational factor, previous cross-cultural experiences, contributes to a better adaptation, in the areas of interpersonal communication and community involvement; supporting that the Portuguese have sociocultural competencies that facilitated their involvement with individuals from the host culture and, therefore, establish successful social relationships.
