Sumario:The article proposes a systematisation of qualitative analysis techniques based on theoretical assumptions about the state that are associated with them. It is argued that content analysis, discourse analysis and structural analysis differ not only in their use of different observation units but also in their affinity with general theoretical postulates and substantive theory. Thus, content analysis favours a split between the state understood as an institutional apparatus and the social position from which it is signified. Discourse analysis tends to define the state as a social spatiality. Finally, structural analysis tends to emphasise the state as a symbolic capacity.
