| Sumario: | In the last three decades there has been a process of persistent expansion of agribusiness and monocultures in the Paraná River basin. This expansion was due to an increase in the international demand for commodities, which drove the so-called "pampeanization" of northeastern Argentina. This phenomenon brought about two intertwined processes: the construction of a waterway on the Paraná River that allows the circulation and export of agricultural production from the main ports, and the expansion of monocultures on native forests and wetlands. The triad: agribusiness, waterway and deforestation, constitute the most important dimensions of analysis in this research, which from a systemic and complex viewpoint seeks to put into context the water crisis that the region is going through in general and the extreme low water level of the Paraná River in particular, in order to unravel its main causes. |
