| Sumario: | The presence of floating litter (FL) in urban rivers and streams impacts on the different uses, hydraulic capacities, water quality and esthetic conditions. In the Matanza-Riachuelo River Basin (MRRB), the transport and destination of FL can affect the normal operation of infrastructure and observation and control elements located near the mouth of the Rio de la Plata. In this area is implemented a water cleaning system based on the strategic location of retention barriers. The occurrence of significant rainfall could collapse these barriers allowing the mobilization of clusters of FL whose destination can be harmful. The hydrodynamics in this area is associated with the hydrological conditions of the MRRB and the dynamics of the Rio de la Plata. To study in detail, the combination of two numerical models was used: 1) a hydrological- hydraulic model of the MRRB; 2) a hydrodynamic model of the Inner Rio de la Plata. In this work, results referring to the assessment of basin concentration times and the paths of FL are presented, following particles from tests of instantaneous rupture of retention barriers. |
