| Sumario: | In 1901, Law 4031 established the Mandatory Military Service in Argentina. We tried to reconstruct the debates and different positions regarding this Law framed within the state’s Project of modernization that Argentine government had begun in the previous century.Socialists and anarchists critics published in two of its main press: La Vanguardia and La Protesta Humana. With similar arguments, both sectors shared the condemnation of the law and state militarism. Supporters and detractors of the Mandatory Military Service responded to a logic and language of modernity that found all its nuances in this debate. This article seeks to highlight them. |
