| Sumario: | The Colombian writer Rubén López-Rodriguéz supports in this essay that myths are a way of understanding the world. Humanity —he says— has always feared natural phenomena, whether storms, earthquakes, thunder, hurricanes or volcano eruptions, and this natural violence causes people to create mythological representations. In their ignorance, they believe that these phenomena occur because of their bad behavior, or because God or the demons are angry. They fabricate myths and legends products of their imagination and transmit them from generation to generation. |
