Sumario:When they were first transplanted from the USA to Brazil – which originated the Therapeutic Justice Program of the State of Rio de Janeiro – Drug Courts for young drug users involved in crimes of lower offensive potential have suffered significant changes in their procedures as a result of the influence of a different juridical culture. The aim of this article is to analyze the practices verified in the implementation of this special kind of justice – Programa de Justiça Terapêutica – in the state of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the opinion that its operators and young people assisted by the program have on it, including their expectations about its effectiveness as a tool for recovery and rehabilitation.
