| Sumario: | This paper approaches three questions included in the «Introduction» to Simone de Beauvoir's famous work, The Second Sex: first, the problem of the text as such, specifically its belonging to the genre of the essay; second, the origin of the question of what is a woman; and finally, the methodological contributions Beauvoir made in this work, which have been underestimated in present-day relevance and importance.
