Sumario:In this paper we propose to historicize the itineraries of scientific journals in Latin America from a socio-structural perspective. We identify periods of constitution of the regional space of periodical publications from the late 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century to the present. We focus on explaining the institutional articulations that emerged between Mexico City and São Paulo that made possible the formation of a structure for the circulation of science. In this scheme we recognize four major periods: associationism (1772-1964); documentation (1950-1980); regionalization (1971-2002) and internationalization (1998-present).
