In this paper we propose to historicize the itineraries of scientific journals in Latin America from a socio-structural perspective. We identify periods of constitution of the regional space of periodical publications from the late 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century to the present. We focus on explaining the institutional articulations that emerged between Mexico City and São Paulo that made possible the formation of a structure for the circulation of science. In this scheme we recognize four major periods: associationism (1772-1964); documentation (1950-1980); regionalization (1971-2002) and internationalization (1998-present). En este trabajo proponemos historiar los itinerarios de las revistas científicas en América Latina desde una perspectiva socio-estructural. Identificamos períodos de constitución del espacio regional de publicaciones periódicas desde finales del S.XVIII y principios del XIX hasta la actualidad. Nos concentramos en explicar las articulaciones institucionales que emergieron entre la Ciudad de México y San Pablo que posibilitaron la formación de una estructura de circulación de la ciencia. En este esquema identificamos cuatro grandes períodos: el asociacionismo (1772-1964); la documentación (1950-1980); la regionalización (1971-2002) y la internacionalización (1998-hasta la actualidad).
