Sumario:This article addresses two dimensions of academic credit systems. The first part presents a comparative analysis of the credit systems of some countries in the Latin American region and various geopolitical tensions that cross them. The second part emphasises the problem of the gap between the theoretical and actual length of curricula and the implications of time estimation. This paper aims to investigate whether the credit systems developed in the countries observed have emerged with the objective of achieving a scenario of horizontal cooperation or whether they have been adopted uncritically based on the traditions and influences of the colonial matrix to which our region is heir.
