Despite the fact that the project sought to defend democracy against the advance of communism and other types of extremism, such discussions allow us to reconstruct the meanings linked to the concept of democracy, the differences between different anti-peronist sectors and the limits of a language based on the defense of democracy. En este artículo trabajamos con los debates que se dieron con relación al proyecto de ley de defensa de la democracia que fue presentado en el Congreso de la Nación en 1961. Pese a que el proyecto buscaba defender a la democracia contra el avance del comunismo y otros tipos de extremismos, dichos debates nos permiten reconstruir los distintitos sentidos ligados al concepto de democracia, las diferencias entre distintos sectores antiperonistas y los límites de un lenguaje político basado en la defensa de la democracia. Para ello, desde una metodología cualitativa, se analizan fuentes primarias.
