| Sumario: | The book Una excursion a los indios ranqueles can be interpreted as a precursor of indigenous trends or the expiatory gesture of guilty consciences of the warriors of civilization. Here, I will stand for a complementary statement. Through the topicalization of "Argentine indians" as a paradoxical identity, the work allows ua to think of the ranqueles' emergence of ethnisazation/ nationalization side by side with the displacement of the enemies' way of subjectivation that goes together with the increase of social interdependencies in a natio-state forming itself throuhg war. I will present a study of the symbolic structure of the work focusing on the relationsip of the pairs status/telos and militar/tourist implicit in the notion of clement civilization.
