It is argued that, beginning in the firsts centuries of the secon millenium A. D., the people of the Quebrada (as many others of the south-central Andes) were involved in a state of endemic, interregional conflict that reached its moment of maximun intensity towards the 14th century. This phenomenon caused deep changes in the economy and political organization of those populations. En este trabajo se describen las evidencias arqueológicas de enfrentamientos armados en la quebrada de Humahuaca durante los últimos siglos de la era prehispánica y se discuten algunas interpretaciones alternativas sobre su significación. Se argumenta que desde los primeros siglos del segundo milenio d.
