A partir del caso de la planta de calzado de Alpargatas ubicada en la localidad de Aguilares, al sur de la provincia de Tucumán, el artículo se propone analizar las transformaciones globales en la industria del calzado –focalizando en la política de externalización de algunos sectores de la producción– y su impacto en las trabajadoras y los trabajadores del sector. Para ello se estudiará, en primer lugar, el recorrido de la emblemática empresa y su paulatina absorción por parte del capital extranjero. En segundo lugar, las transformaciones globales en la industria del calzado.
