Sumario:The aim of this article is to analyze the characteristics of associationism in the edge of rural Argentina since the deregulation of the yerba mate’s sector -under the consolidation of the neoliberal model- to the present. The three decades under study make it possible to identify ruptures, changes and continuities in the practices of collective action carried out by the social subjects involved in this agrarian production, while allowing the design and scope of public policies to be identified at different stages. The perspective is placed on the processes of agrarian differentiation where asymmetry and concentration are salient features of the sector to be studied. Social economy is part of the theoretical and conceptual approach that allow to evaluate the scope and limits of collective action strategies. Thus, focusing in concrete problematic situations -as presented in this article- makes it possible to identify differences and similarities with other Latin American contributions that ponder agrarian associationism as an object of study. The qualitative research methods that are used in this paper are participant observation, semi-structured interviews with key actors, that are complemented with periodic publications, secondary bibliography on the subject and internal documents of the organizations (memory of cooperatives, minutes, press releases, statutes).
