| Sumario: | The current dynamism in the multilateral and regional financial actors map is manifested in various dimensions, one being the emergence of new actors. The recently created Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and BRICS’ New Development Bank (NDB) have attracted increasing attention due to their challenge of complementing developing countries’ (specially infrastructure) needs. Five years after their start-up, this paper inquiries into their operating policies and main financial instruments, to then characterise their operational volume and the sectoral and geographical composition of their portfolios. In addition to the exponential lending growth, stand out differentials such as co-financing with traditional MDBs (AIIB) or financing from national and subregional development banks, or in local currency (NDB) stand out. |
