Sumario:This work explores the suitability of carbon isotope composition analysis of peat deposits for the characterization of climatic and environmental change throughout the Holocene Epoch in the Puna of Argentina. We present thirty-one δ13C values, measured in Holocene peat deposits, which were compiled from the relevant published and unpublished bibliography by our research team in the provinces of Jujuy and Salta, in order to explore temporal and altitude-related patterns in carbon isotope composition. The most heterogeneous δ13C values were found during the Mid-Holocene Epoch. Similarly, we registered lower δ13C values at higher altitude sites, which could be related to the prevalence of more humid conditions at these places in the Puna. We consider these results to contribute to a better understanding of space-time variability in the isotopic composition of plants; a first step towards the construction of a comprehensive isotopic ecology of the region that would facilitate more precise isotopic data linked
