Sumario:The Argentine Navy's interest in achieving energy self-sufficiency to mobilize its ships and ensure the defense of sovereignty led a group of its most prominent officers to demand a more decisive attitude from the institution and the State. The lessons learned from the successive wars since the end of the 19th century on the strategic value of energy resources and their availability for the production and mobilization of war elements, further accentuated their concern in this regard. The Navy was involved in the exploration and exploitation of coal, oil and hydroelectric resources, and later played an important role in the development of nuclear energy in Argentina. In this paper we will analyze the origins of the process of formation of a technical elite with a high degree of professional training and industrialist awareness within the Navy, and interested in the development of the national energy sector. In the study, during the first half of the 20th century, we will use articles, conferences, memoirs and information from the personal files of a group of naval officers who wanted to increase state control over strategic resources and defense-related industries.
