Sumario:In this essay I discuss, in the context of postmodern utopias and market economy, the contemporary Latin American theatre that decides not to follow the dominant models. I propose to use the term "group theatre" to refer to the phenomenon linked to the project of modernity. I present the current trends shown by theatre groups from different countries of Latin America by means of a selective survey of key examples.
