Sumario:In this article, we will focus on the study of a particular type of land tenure that flourished in 3rd century BC Hellenistic Egypt due to state promotion: the Ptolemaic cleruchies. On the basis of this specific case, we intend to put into play categories of sociocultural analysis coming from anthropology, such as “ethnicity” and, above all, “ethnic strategy”, in order to verify two main questions: firstly, whether the abovementioned settlement policy had some degree of success and, secondly, whether it had significant consequences in the scheme of interethnic relations in the Arsinoite Nome
