In central Mexico, the presence of clay figurines with European forms in non-Western archaeological contexts, referred to al colonial, has generated diverse interpretations about their use. This study presents a ceramic analysis that proposes a classification of the pieces and chronological framework, in addition to explaining their use and function through the cross-referencing of historical sources with information obtained through ethnographic techniques. This allows us to point out that this type of figures are part of a new Mesoamerican religious manifestations and practices developed during the viceroyalty of New Spain, which have undergone processes of change and persistence until contemporary times. La clasificación de materiales es un aspecto clave en la investigación arqueológica. En el centro de México, la presencia de figurillas de barro con formas europeas en contextos arqueológicos no occidentales, denominadas coloniales, ha generado diversas interpretaciones sobre su utilización. Este estudio presenta un análisis cerámico que propone una clasificación de las piezas y un acercamiento temporal, además de explicar su uso y función a través del cruce de fuentes históricas y trabajo etnográfico. Esto nos permite señalar que este tipo de figurillas son parte de nuevas manifestaciones y prácticas religiosas mesoamericanas gestadas durante el virreinato de la Nueva España, las cuales han experimentado procesos de cambio y persistencia hasta la época contemporánea. A classificação dos materiais é um aspeto fundamental da investigação arqueológica. No México central, a presença de estatuetas de barro com formas européias em contextos arqueológicos não ocidentais, ditos coloniais, tem gerado diferentes interpretações sobre seu uso. Este estudo apresenta uma análise cerâmica que propõe uma classificação das peças e uma abordagem temporal, para além de explicar a sua utilização e função do cruzamento de fontes históricas com informações obtidas através de técnicas etnográficas. Isto permite- nos assinalar que este tipo de estatuetas faz parte de novas manifestações e práticas religiosas mesoamericanas desenvolvidas durante o vice-reinado da Nova Espanha, que sofreram processos de mudança e persistência até à época contemporânea.
