Sumario:The purpose of the presente work is to determine the dose usually used in Computed Tomography and to modify radiological parameters to optimize each protocol depending on the given dose. To determine the dose, a pencil-ionization chamber, a PTW dosemeter, a PMMA head phantom and abdominal phantom, and a water phantom were used for measurements. The CT scanner used was General Electric Hi Speed – Helical 120kV. Withthese instruments the usually given doses and the noise for each of the studies were measured, and it has been worked along with the group of technicians and physicians of the institution inorder to reduce the dosage of each protocol used, keeping high diagnostic quality images. Although the protocols used by the institution prior to this study did not impart large doses to pa-tients, values of CTDI W in all protocols could be reduced by 27% on average and no diagnostic quality was lost or problems to the group of physicians working in this institution were caused in any of the cases due to the slight increase in noise level.
