| Sumario: | ABSTRACT.The aim of this paper is to contribute to the description of an academic
genre: the research article, studying some linguistic devices used to convey epistemic
and evidential modality. In particular, I will examine the use of certain markers of epistemic and evidential modality: epistemic and evidential verbs, modal and semi-
modal verbs, in the discussion/ conclusion of research articles in medical sciences and
paleontology, focusing on the relation between these modal markers and the notions
of subjectification and grammaticalisation. I claim that modality is a linguistic category
with gradual distinctions, which characterize modal markers along a scalar dimension
of subjectivity, related with degrees of grammaticalization. I will try to show that these
modal markers are related to the domain of the discipline. ----------------------------------------------------RESUMO. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar algumas reflexões, como contributo
ao conhecimento de um gênero acadêmico, o artigo de pesquisa, a partir da análise
de alguns dos procedimentos linguísticos que manifestam a modalidade epistêmica e
evidencial. Neste trabalho, proponho-me, em primeiro lugar, analisar alguns tipos de
marcadores de modalidade epistêmica e evidencial: verbos epistêmicos e evidenciais,
verbos modais e semi-modais, na seção discussão/conclusões de artigos de pesquisa,
provenientes de duas disciplinas científicas: medicina e paleontologia. Numa segunda
instância, meu propósito é relacionar estes recursos modais com as noções de subjeti-
vação e gramaticalização. Meu intuito é demonstrar que a modalidade é uma categoria
linguística na qual existem distinções de caráter gradual que caracterizam os marcadores
linguísticos ao longo de uma escala de menor a maior subjetividade, relacionada com
distintos graus de gramaticalização, e que os recursos modais analisados se relacionam
com a perspectiva temática da disciplina. |
