| Sumario: | The aim of this research was to analyze the process of territorial expansion of the University of
Caxias do Sul (UCS) through its strategies of regional integration and its involvement with
practices oriented to the development of the Northeast region of Rio Grande do Sul.Brazil. The
regional integration strategies were analyzed in the university's territ orial expansion in this
region, and the significances attributed by the academic and external communities to its
regionalization process. The reading of documental texts, combined with the testimonials of
agents involved in their elaboration, contextualizes this production. Fundament was looked for
in the Theory of Social Representations, in order to understand and explicit the produced
significances. In that sense, the regionalization project, the territory used involving all actors,
was a socially shared space regarding its appropriation (in a simbolic sense) and dominance (in
a concrete, political-economical sense). |
