Sumario:Based on the index proposed by Reca et al. (1994), the conservation status of Uruguayan ophidian fauna is evaluated. Thirty four species were analyzed, of which Crotalus durissus terrificus, Eunectes notaeus, Liotyphlops temetzii, Chironius bicarinatus, Echinanthera poecilopogon, Pseudablabes agassizü, Sibynomorphus túrgidas and Lystrophis histricus, stand out as of possible máximum conservation priority. According to this index, 61.73% of the species of Uruguay's ophidian fauna was categorized as conservation problem. The main limitation detected in using the Reca index is the lack of basic information on some species.
